Annual Conference 2012 – Marketing Competition

1.    ALL advertising and public relations division entries must either display the MSAA logo, or include the statement that the Auctioneer is an MSAA member or that the advertising spot / piece is connected with the MSAA.  The exception is company promotional items and photos.  In Category 4, the logo must be on at least one page of the auction presentation.  Entries not displaying the logo or stating their association with the MSAA will be disqualified.  (MSAA logo is in your membership packet / can be downloaded from www.msaa.org)

2.    MSAA members have paid at least one conference registration may enter.  The person whose name appears on the entry form MUST be a current member of the MSAA or the entry will be disqualified.

3.    Each individual entry must be accompanied by an official entry form and a $5.00 per item entry fee.

4.    Only original work will be accepted – not photocopies.  Photocopying the entries negatively affects the quality and look of the entries.

5.    Up to three entries per person/company may be submitted in each section under each category.

6.    Advertising entries must have been created in the year 2011.

7.    All entries must be received on or before 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 25, 2012.  Entries must be entered at the convention. No mailed or emailed entries will be accepted (except the website and social media categories).

8.    In all sections of Category 1, color is defined by ink use, not paper.

9.    In Categories 4 and 7, presentation folders and all the items inside will be judged in the Presentation Folder Section. Items may be entered in other sections also.

10.    News releases entered in Category 3 should be accompanied by any press clips or news coverage generated by them.

11.    Category 5 “web site and social media” section Entries must be entered by January 6, 2012.  The member Web Site will be judged on the layout, design, ease of navigation, completeness of information, etc. of the website.

  • Social Media Entries must include:
  • List of links to all social media outlets including company website
  • Narrative on how company’s strategy and uses of Social Media
  • Example from the previous 12 months of social media interaction and or interrogation.
  • All entries must be in PDF form and emailed to the MSAA Office by January 6, 2012.

12.    Category 6: Photo Entries:

  • Photo entries must be clearly marked with Members name, address, date of auction and category entered.
  • Photos must be recent, within the last two years.
  • Photos will be judged on quality, content and how well they capture an auction.
  • More than one photo per category is acceptable.
  • Judges will choose photos that DO NOT have company names or logos first.
  • They will choose “logo photos” only if they are superior to other photos by a wide margin.

13.    Category 7: Auction of the Year:   The Auction of the Year is a category must be entered with complete information as detailed below. Auction of the year entries are judged on the following criteria:

Auction of the Year Entries MUST include: Typed and organized executive summary with organized supporting materials.  Proof of Event completion (date, time, location), include MSAA logo in brochures, literature and/or media used, etc. and written request for consideration.

Please include any of the following:

  • Important information on why the auction was noteworthy.
  • The goals for the auction and how it achieved or exceeded those goals.
  • Copies of press releases and news coverage about the auction.
  • Photographs, copies of advertising, and any promotional items or efforts employed.
  • Information on the volume and types of items sold at the auction.
  • Innovative marketing or auction techniques used.
  • New technology or operating systems.
  • Reports on the auction’s financial success.

14.  Winners’ names will be published in the Gavel and placed on the MSAA website.

15.    Entries will not be returned unless the request is made in writing along with the entry.  A self-addressed, stamped envelope must be included. Excluding Company Image Wear / promotional items.

16.    Winners’ will be awarded at the Presidential Banquet. Note:  Auction of the Year & Website will be kept SECRET until banquet.

17.    Failure to comply with any of the rules will cause the entry to be judged ineligible for the Advertising Contest.
