MSAA Hall of Fame Inductees 2012
The MSAA Annual Conference was highlighted by several events. One of which is the induction of Auctioneers into the MSAA Hall of Fame. This took place at the President’s banquet on Thursday, January 26, 2012. Ben Glardon of Owosso, Michigan and Richard J. Montgomery of Plymouth were honored for their extraordinary service to the Auction Industry by being inducted into the MSAA Hall of Fame.

Ben Glardon was born and raised in the Auction Business with Glardon Auction Service, that his father started over 70 years ago. He has lived and breathed the auction method of selling for over 40 years. He has conducted a wide cross section of auctions annually, including farm equipment, real estate, bankruptcy, estates, business liquidations, personal property collections, guns, coins, fundraisers, benefit auctions and more.
Ben is a graduate of Missouri Auction School in 1979. He has been a licensed Realtor since 1983 and is the past President of the Shiawassee Association Board of Realtors. He was honored to receive the Shiawassee County Realtor of the Year and the Re-Max Hall of Fame. He is also a past President of the Shiawassee/Owosso Kiwanis’ Club. Ben is the President of Glardon Auction Service and a past Director of the Michigan State Auctioneers Association.
Ben was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives for the 85th District in 2010. He currently serves on the House Agriculture, Insurance and Commerce Committees. He also serves as Vice Chair of the Transportation Committee.
The Michigan State Auctioneers Association was honored to induct Benjamin P. Glardon into its Hall of Fame on January 26, 2012. Ben was asked to speak to the association members about his experience in the State House of Representatives to kick off the Michigan Auctioneer Championships. He was surprised by the MSAA by being presented with the Hall of Fame induction. Ben said “I am honored to receive this award on behalf of my entire family who has worked so hard to be successful. The Auction world has truly been my passion.”

Richard J. Montgomery, CAI, MPPA, CES

Richard Montgomery started in the industry working with Norman Levy & Associates as a teenager. After that he went to work with Williams & Lipton Co. for 5 years. When asked, Rick says “The auction business is the only business I know, I have never had any other type of job (Not sure if that is good or bad!)”

Richard personally has been working in this same field for over 40 years. As a graduate of the Reppert School of Auctioneering, Inc. and the Auction Marketing Institute, he has earned the designations of Certified Auctioneer (CAI), Certified Estate Specialist (CES), Graduate, Personal Property Appraiser (GPPA) and earned the 60th Master, Personal Property Appraiser (MPPA) in the world. He also graduated from the International Society of Appraisers “Specialty Course of Machinery & Equipment”.
As CEO/president of R.J. MONTGOMERY & ASSOCIATES, INC., one of the top AUCTION, APPRAISAL AND LIQUIDATION firms in the State of Michigan, he makes it his goal to provide clients with the most thorough, efficient and expedient services in the state.
He is a member of the National Auctioneers Association, the Michigan State Auctioneers Association (2003 President, 2004 Chairman of the Board), The Auction Marketing Institute, the International Society of Appraisers, the Machinery Dealers National Association.
He is bonded with the United States Government and works regularly with the United States Bankruptcy Courts conducting auctions, appraisals and liquidation’s on their behalf. Satisfied clients also include the United States Justice Department, a large assortment of financial institutions (which include, JP Morgan Chase, Comerica, Citizens Bank, Bank of America, Key Bank, Fifth Third Bank, Huntington Bank, etc.), municipalities/cities, many charity organizations, and a large number of business and private clients.
